Xiao Fan
Xiao Fan was born in 1992. He came from a very small village along the Yangtze River. A flood killed his parents when he was young. All of his paintings are inspired by memories of his village, because he misses it and his family so much.
Si Xun was born in 1991. She is missing a hand. Her parents divorced, and neither one wanted her, so she now lives in the orphanage. She is a very smart girl, and as Kenny says, she paints with her heart and soul, so her paintings are unusually beautiful and vivid. Si Xun likes to paint love birds, because she hopes that all couples can love each other the way these birds love each other.
Xiao Ying was born in 1990. Her birthplace is unknown because she was found in a hospital when she was a baby. Ying loves painting bamboo, which symbolizes a warm, strong family that is always together.
Xiao Yun was born in 1991. She was found on a busy street in Chongqing when she was about 15 days old. She is “very smart” and has a good imagination, according to her teacher Kenny.
Yi Ming was born in 1991. He is from a very small village, far from any city. When he was young, his father died of cancer, and his mother left the family, so he went to live with his grandmother. When his grandmother died four years ago, Yi Ming went to live in the orphanage. Yi Ming does wonderful paintings of Chinese men in a traditional style.
Kenny volunteers as an art teacher in orphanages near Chongqing. Kenny has a heart for orphans because he was raised in an orphanage. He was in an orphanage because his parents, both physicians, were required to travel throughout China to help others, and were unable to raise Kenny and his two siblings. Kenny is a gifted artist who deeply desires to help orphans learn how to support themselves when they leave the orphanage. Often these children leave with no money, education or anyone to support them. Kenny is completely supported by his parents and siblings, also doctors, so that he can do this important work full-time.
