About Us

We live in Bend, Oregon, with our four children: Cyrus, Jasper, Maya and Ella.  We became interested in adoption when we decided to have a third child.  After much prayer and reflection, we came to the realization that this child would be a girl from China.

Since we started the adoption process, we have learned a lot about the plight of orphans in China, and are moved to do what we can to help.

Scrolls From China started with a visit to China to adopt our daughter Maya.  While we were there, we met a man whose mission in life is to help children in orphanages.  Kenny is a gifted artist, and his life's work is to teach these children how to paint scrolls so that when they must leave the orphanage, they have a trade and can make an honest living.  We were impressed by Kenny's enthusiasm, and even more impressed by the beauty and grace of the scrolls his gifted students create.

We are pleased to be in partnership with Kenny and his students.  The children are overjoyed at your response to their work.  They love hearing about how much the scrolls mean to the people who buy them.  May you get as much joy from these scrolls as we do.

P.S.  Keep in touch by reading our Scrolls From China blog.  Our blog chronicles our Spring 2007 trip to China to adopt our fourth child, Ella.  While visiting in China we had the opportunity to spend time with Kenny and the scroll artists.  We also delivered donated laptop computers to the orphanages.
